  • Inside the matchup: Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals

    Eric Umphrey, the Times|Dec 19, 2019

Before getting to the matchup with Arizona let’s take a look at the playoff picture. With the Rams loss this past week, the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers are both in the playoffs. However, the seeding is very much up in the air. I’ll stick with just the possibilities between the 49ers and the Seahawks for the division title. Both teams have 11-3 records with two games left to play. They play each other in Seattle the last game of the regular season. Should the Seahawks win their remaining two games they will win the div...

  • Coaches praise players dedication and skill improvement

    Dave Schreindl, the Times|Dec 19, 2019

Dayton-Waitsburg's fall athletic teams banquet theme seemed to be the future is bright at its Monday night at the Dayton Elementary multipurpose room. The only thing that could have gotten the message across better would have been to be playing Timbuk 3's song "The Future is so bright, I gotta wear shades," in the background during the ceremony. "The future is bright," Head Football Coach Troy Larsen explained. "These kids don't play just one spot and they each got better week by week." Larsen s...

They fell to St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 59-28, to College Place 64-35, and 50-30 to Mac-Hi in their first home games of the season at the Dayton gymnasium. While things did not start off optimistically with three losses, the team came away with valuable lessons that will become instilled in them as the season progresses. “They now understand that they have to work hard for four quarters and to play 32 minutes,” sai...

  • Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers

    Eric Umphrey, the Times|Dec 12, 2019

Last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams was costly on two fronts. First it caused the Seattle Seahawks to drop back down to the 5th seed in the playoffs, and second, they lost running back Rashaad Penny for the the rest of the season with an ACL injury. Other injury news is more positive. It was revealed by Pete Carroll that Tyler Lockett had been dealing with a shin bruise for weeks but that it has finally healed. This explains Lockett's lack of production over the past several weeks. Both...

    Dave Schreindl, the Times|Dec 12, 2019

Boys high school basketball kicked off the season in the area with the Dayton-Waitsburg High School's team's first home game of the year. Instead of good tidings, the Mac-Hi Pioneers arrived in a grinch-like mood and left town with a 46-33 victory. Dayton-Waitsburg dropped two other games last week, 78-56 to College Place and a close loss 59-48 at St.John-Endicott/LaCrosse. Despite losses against bigger schools, Coach Roy Ramirez felt the team is going to be fine as the season goes along. "It...

Let's walk through each of the moves for the following players added: Evan White, Carl Edwards Jr., Kendall Graveman, and Nestor Cortes Jr. Then we'll take a look at the players released: Domingo Santana, Tim Beckham and another rumored-to-be-traded starting catcher Omar Narvaez. • Inside the matchup: Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams

    Eric Umphrey, the Times|Dec 5, 2019

With last week’s win over the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks (10-2) now hold the 2nd seed in the NFC. The New Orleans Saints (10-2) are currently the 1st seed with their victory against Seattle early in the season. The Saints play the San Francisco 49ers (10-2) this week. The 49ers are currently the 5th seed since they lost their head to head matchup against the Seahawks a few weeks ago. A win over the Rams this week for Seattle would clinch a playoff spot. Looking at the matchup, t...

  • Inside the matchup: Seahawks vs. Vikings

    Eric Umphrey, The Times|Nov 28, 2019

This is an important game for each team’s playoff seeding. The Minnesota Vikings are currently tied for their division lead with the Green Bay Packers (8-3). Green Bay currently owns the tie-breaker in the NFC North as they beat the Vikings early in the year. If the season ended today the Seahawks (9-2) would be the 5th seed and the Vikings (8-3) the 6th seed in the playoffs. Since head to head matchups are the first tie-breaker when determining playoff seeding, if these teams ended the s...

  • Seattle Seahawks vs. Philadelphia Eagles

    Nov 21, 2019

PHILADELPHIA, Penn.- This should be another close game for Seattle against a quality opponent. Philadelphia has been a hard team to figure out this year losing games against bad teams like Detroit (3-6-1) and Atlanta (3-7) but winning on the road against Buffalo (7-3) and Green Bay (8-2). The Eagles are -2 in turnovers meaning they have more giveaways than takeaways for the season. Their biggest issue is the fumble. Once again the quarterback advantage goes to the Seahawks. #11 Carson Wentz runs...

  • Inside the matchup Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers

    Eric Umphrey, the Times|Nov 7, 2019

The quarterback advantage goes to the Seahawks. #10 Jimmy Garoppolo has 70.8% completion rate but doesn’t run well and has thrown seven interceptions to go with his 13 touchdowns on the season. Russell Wilson’s 22 passing touchdowns against one interception is much better. The Seahawks look to have the advantage at receiving this game. The 49ers have ten different players with a receiving touchdown. Recently acquired #17 Emmanuel Sanders picked up from Denver and tight end #85 George Kittle lea...

    Eric Umphrey, The Times|Oct 31, 2019

It's late October which means the World Series is almost over and therefore the baseball season is nearly complete. So this is a good time to share more of the photos that were taken at this years' Hall of Fame Weekend in Cooperstown, New York. One of the events we covered was the Hall of Fame Parade of Heroes. This was a parade of the existing and newly elected Hall of Famers down Main Street in Cooperstown. Thanks to my older brother and a little luck, we ended up in the perfect location to...
