Waitsburg resident Tom Elstrom finished the 2025 STP bicycle race from Seattle to Portland. The STP route is 207 miles long, traversing both urban and rural settings in July. This year's Patriot Parade route ended at the Bruce House Museum lawn for a flag dedication. The American Legion Auxillary donated the flag, a new flag pole, and a plaque to the Waitsburg Historical Society. The Waitsburg Scout Troop, with help from Rose Engelbrite and support from scout leader Sarah Roberts, raised the new flag and pole in a challenging wind on July 4. On July 3, a group of French motorcyclists stopped in Waitsburg on the second leg of a tour to Miami. This is the second year that a Road2Luxe tour has come through town. The guide hoped to stop again at Ten Ton Coffee, and although the shop had returned to being an art studio, the owner was still able to make espresso for all eleven riders. As we moved into our house, we learned from the previous owners that there had once been a large in-ground pool in the backyard, which apparently had been a popular hangout for local housewives in the sixties and seventies.
