Nearly 600 riders paid a visit to Waitsburg and its surrounding countryside this past weekend during the 15th annual Tour of Walla Walla. This 3-day, 4-stage cycling race brought bicyclists from all over to Waitsburg's downtown.

Fletcher Baker will be sworn in as the first-ever student representative on the Waitsburg City Council on Wednesday.

Twenty-Five Years Ago

April 26, 2001

Crowned Queen of the Junior Prom last Saturday was Jessie Winnett, and Prom King was James Richardson. Ye Town Hall was transformed into an enchanting undersea world for the annual dance, sponsored by the Junior Class of Waitsburg High School.

Pat Mohney downplayed his role in rescuing little Alexis Nordman, instead directing attention toward her mother, Terrie Nordman, who covered her daughter to protect her from the attacking Rottweilers. Nordman calls Mohney "an angel."

Scott Mason pitched well for Waitsburg in the pitcher's duel with Tim Lynch of DeSales last Saturday. The Cards lost in eight innings 3-2.

In a cloud of dust, Cardinal Sarah Henze safely reaches third. Waitsburg dropped two games to DeSales last weekend.

New officers of the Saddleers elected Monday night are Jake Smith, president; Cecil Webber, vice president; Connie Cole, secretary; and Erma Smith, treasurer. Directors are Jake Smith, Don Thomas, Jim Archer, Ellsworth Conover and Pete Hermanns,

Candidates for Days of Real Sport Queen are Lassie Smith, Colleen Kinman from Prescott, Barbara Lovelace, Elaine Land and Janet Collins.

One Hundred Years Ago

April 30, 1926

D. W. Ramseur and son Edgar arrived home Sunday from Lincolnton, NC, where they spent the winter months visiting relatives and old friends in and about "the old home town."

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

May 3, 1901

P. H. Abbey and wife moved into the residence of Mrs. Mary Abbey, formerly occupied by W. H. Fletcher and wife, in the eastern part of town.

Cards are out announcing the wedding of Miss Ethel Viola Woods to Mr. John C. Bartges, Wednesday, May 8, 1901.

Frank Harsh this week moved his mother and sisters to Long's Station where Frank has secured a position in the flouring mills there.
