Bill Clemens presents the grant award check from the Pacific Power Foundation to Jessica Atwood, co-chair of the Downtown Dayton Playground Committee, as they stand at the site of the future playground.

The recent wresting Little Guys wrestling tournament at Waitsburg's Kison Court helped raise interest in the sport among middle and high school students in the area. In action here is Austin Kimmon, a Dayton member of the Waitsburg Matbirds.

Prescott seniors David Brock and Joe Purdin work together to pick off a Coyote base runner on first during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Columbia-Burbank in Prescott.

With the runner out at second, Cardinal Sarah Henze makes the move to first for an attempted double play in Waitsburg's Saturday doubleheader against Prescott. The Cards won both games and downed the Pomeroy Pirates on Monday.

Hordes of Easter Egg hunters converged on Preston Park for the annual egg hunt, combing the green lawn of 115 dozen eggs and 30 lbs. of chocolate eggs on a chilly but sunny Saturday morning.

Trudi Scott, daughter of Gloria Scott, has earned the designation of State Farmer. She is the first young lady to gain that honor as a member of the Waitsburg FFA.

Fifty Years Ago

April 15, 1976

No one could remember when the Junior Livestock Show had two beautiful days. Friday was so nice that all the beef fitting, showing and judging was held outside to an appreciative audience.

Brad Ely proudly shows the grand champion market steer of the show. Bill Stonecipher presented the trophy tray from the Cattlemen's Association. Judge is Clint Luce.

[Photo caption] Sisters Kim and Lisa Patton were champion and reserve in the senior advanced equitation division of the Saturday horse show, and Corrinne Wood was intermediate advanced equitation champion. The three young ladies from Waitsburg line up to display their ribbons and trophies late Saturday afternoon.

April 20, 1951

At a two o'clock ceremony, Sunday, April 15 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Father Schwemin united in marriage Miss Dorothy Gagnon and Dorne Hall.

J. D. Stonecipher, Jim Stonecipher, Morris Ganguet, and Walter Hamilton were fishing Sunday at Wall Lake near Ritzville.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas Pollard of Walla Walla announce the engagement of their daughter, Betty to PFC Neil Maxwell of Wichita Falls, Texas.

One Hundred Years Ago

April 23, 1926

Donald Abbey and Roy Wills were painfully cut and bruised as the result of an auto accident about 10:30 Friday night.

Miss Velma Walker has been chosen by the high school student body as Queen of the May for 1926.

A new brick church to replace the present frame structure at the corner of Main and West Fifth will probably be erected by this summer by the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church.

April 26, 1901

The straight front summer corsets at Smith Bros give a perfect figure and solid comfort. They are perfection in style.

The Waitsburg Military Band was unable to give their weekly concert last Saturday afternoon owing to the rain. A concert will be given this Saturday however if the weather permits.

Twenty-five hundred dozen eggs were shipped last week by Smith Bros and as many more will leave their store this week. We want all that this entire county can bring us and give 15 cents per dozen.
