4-Paws Dog Obedience Class (a 4-H club) will be holding their first organizational meeting of the year on Monday, March 26 at 4 p.m. at the Hockersmith home in Waitsburg.

[Photo Caption] Tell-tale signs of spring include this year's bumper crop of kids at the Monteillet Fromagerie just west of Dayton. Joan and Pierre-Louis Monteillet reported the birth of 60 goats and 45 sheep this year with another 10 and 25 of each on the way respectively. The farm is among several in the Touchet Valley where the newly born liven up the landscape these early spring days.

Donald "Gus" Harris was honored by Commercial Club for maintaining membership in the organization for 60-plus years. Harris was presented a plaque honoring the occasion by Master of Ceremonies David McConnell. "I've seen a lot around this town," Harris said. "I was five years old when they turned the first power on in this town. I've enjoyed living here, it's the best place on earth."

In an almost unheard-of event, Bill Barnett's Katahdin ewe gave birth to six lambs recently. The ewe had two of the lambs last week, then four days later gave birth to the other four. Only three remain with the ewe. The other three are being bottle fed by Barnett's daughter.

Fifty Years Ago

March 25, 1976

[Photo Caption] Mrs. Charles Vollmer admires some of the paintings which were displayed at the Hobby Show by Jackie Penner.There were some interested spectators who watched Jack Garriott from Walla Walla do some ol'-fashioned whittlin' at the Hobby Show sponsored by DeNova Club.

Doug Justus and Dean Perry proudly display some collections that they had at the Hobby show here last Saturday.

Seventy-Five Years Ago

March 30, 1951

Sam Grant Jr. of Prescott won the election for State FFA secretary at the annual Future Farmers convention held at Pullman.

Bob DuPree, lineman for the Pacific Power and Light Co. in the Waitsburg district was issued a patent on March 20 for a circuit tester which he invented.

The Touchet Valley Grain Growers is building a new all-steel 300,000 bushel elevator at Prescott on the site of the flat house which collapsed last fall.

One Hundred Years Ago

April 2, 1926

Will Hawks, one of our most successful wheat farmers of the Coppei district, has recently purchased the interest of the rest of the heirs in what is known as the J. T. Hawks farm.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

April 5, 1901

J. W. Cole had a runaway on Tuesday evening. He got out to shut the gate at the City Park after driving his horse through, but the horse got frightened at something and ran away, completely demolishing the buggy. James' temper was ruffled considerably but the horse seems to be alright.

The Waitsburg Military Band has received the addition of several new members, some of the boys who are taking lessons having become proficient enough to practice with the band. Among the number are Clyde Tuttle, John Honeycutt, Bruce Abbey, and A. W. Strickland besides Wait Preston who was formerly a member.
