DAYTON—After a failed onside kick by Liberty Christian to open the game, Dayton Waitsburg High School football began moving the ball down the field. PRESCOTT-Friday October 11th Prescott played the St. George Dragons. The momentum was all Prescott in the 1st half until there was about 17 minutes left in the half. No goals were scored during at that time but Prescott had several great chances that were either saved by St. George's goalie or just missed the net either high or wide. Adrenaline 10U fastpitch softball team ended their season on a high note at the Pumpkin Classic tournament in Yakima & Selah, WA on October 5 and 6. There were a total of 10 teams in their age bracket from the surrounding northwest area. Adrenaline earned the #1 seed Saturday during pool play. Adrenaline went on to win the semi-final game vs Wildcats Anderson 9-3. A new California State law will allow California college student-athletes to get paid for use of their name, image or likeness in 2023. It also allows students to hire an agent to represent them. As more and more money has been made by everyone involved except the athletes on the field, it felt like this day was coming. The Dayton-Waitsburg High School Football team dropped their 2nd conference game of the year to Mabton on Friday October 5th. Turnovers and penalties would be their undoing this game. They would turnover the ball three times via the interception and three times with fumbles. Eleven penalties for eighty total yards also didn’t help. Muzzle loading season for Deer opened in our area on 28 September and runs through October 6th. Muzzle loading (black powder) hunting is primarily done in the surrounding wheat fields rather than in the Blue Mountains and hunters are only allowed to take mule deer and whitetail bucks with 3 points or better, or white tailed does. #54 Theo Anderson scored the first points for the Dayton-Waitsburg defense this year with his blocked punt for a safety to close out the scoring giving DW the lead at 8-6 in the 1st quarter. Dayton-The DW Cardinals hosted the McCall-Donnelly Vandals Friday September 13th in a non conference matchup. Initially this game wasn't supposed to be on the schedule but McCall-Donnelly had a late cancellation. Columbia-Burbank held DW's running game in check for most of the game and when DW's defense made stops they took over deep in their own territory.
