One of the most public issues in our area is the possession of firearms. A bill recently introduced into the legislature by Rep Douthwait, King County, would have the State of Washington collect a yearly $20 fee for each handgun in the State, and require each owner to register all guns. The state could theoretically collect $40 million in fees. The legislature could then set up a handgun control commission and pay 2,000 people $20,000 per year to sift through handgun records.

Harvesting of green peas will start by June 5 or earlier in some parts of the Walla Walla district, but the local cannery does not expect to begin operations until June 17. Yield prospects on the earlier fields are not encouraging because of the dry weather and winds which have prevailed here in recent weeks. One field man predicted some fields would produce only 800 to 1,000 pounds of peas to the acre where prospects a month ago were for 1 ½ tons to the acre. Each day without rain further reduces the prospect but the industry generally feels there is a good chance yet for substantial yields, after planted peas apparently are holding up well considering the dry weather.

Claus Cloduis made a catch of 251 trout in Mill Creek Sunday. His two companions, Will and Frank Kibler, caught 212 and 174 respectively. The boys were entertained much of the time by 25 of the Garden City's colored folks who were on an outing and in company, sang and made merry most of the day. Lloyd and Marvins teams while hitched to the rear of their meat market, became frightened by their gasoline engine last Friday morning and ran away. Luckily but little damage was done.
