The boys would face Irrigon in the first round matchup. D-W quickly found themselves in a ten point deficit after Irrigon shot 8-16 from the field in the quarter. D-W started off the game shooting 2-19 from the field in the first quarter with all five points coming from Sadie Seney. D-W would chip away at the lead in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, with a balanced scoring attack bringing the score to 40-32 Irrigon at the end of the 3rd quarter. However, a big game by JaLay Burns leading all scorers with 34, proved to be too much for D-...

With the loss against the Arizona Cardinals, the Seattle Seahawks need to beat the San Francisco 49ers next week in order to win the division. Unfortunately, the injuries suffered at running back this week will make that very difficult. Losing Rashaad Penny (torn ACL) against the Rams was bad enough but to lose both Chris Carson (hip) and C.J. Prosise (broken arm) against the Cardinals could be too much to overcome. Since all three of the injuries are reported to be season ending, the Seahawks will need to find replacements between now and next...
If they gave out points for hustle and hard work Dayton-Waitsburg would have won by a blowout Saturday night. Instead, the Dayton-Watisburg team dropped their first league contest of the year 56-46 to visiting Kittitas. Due to the fact that D-W was struggling with illness all week, they knew coming into the contest that they would have to outwork the other team because of an incomplete varsity roster. “I think that because we had those illnesses, we had to out hustle them because we didn’t have the depth we normally have,” Junior 6’1...
One day after their first league game was cancelled because of illness, the Dayton-Waitsburg girls basketball team opened league play with a 57-35 home loss to Kittitas Saturday night. In the last game of the season at the Dayton gym, the girls pushed themselves to the limit and played well in the loss. The rest of D-W’s home games will be played at the Waitsburg gym. “I thought this was one of our best games yet,” Senior Captain Kira Boggs said. “No more setbacks, we’re only going up from here.” D-W Head Coach Tamira Cully also recognized...

The teams would trade leads several times in the first quarter before ending the quarter in a 17-17 tie. In the 2nd quarter, WWVA would slowly build up a six point lead to end the half at 35-29. With the score 40-33 in the 3rd quarter, Prescott hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 40-36 but WWVA would go on a 13-5 run to close out the quarter 53-41. WWVA would go on to win the game 63-49. Omar Velazco had a great shooting n...
As the clock wound down in the tight contest between neighboring schools Prescott and Dayton-Waitsburg, the intensity from inside the Dayton gymnasium increased until it overflowed, following a narrow D-W win of 54-49 in the non-league contest. To set the scene, the Dayton-Waitsburg boys basketball team had not won a game in 23 tries, had come off three tough losses featuring poor shooting, and the Prescott Tigers came to the contest after convincing victories over Bickleton and Moses Lake Chris...
YAKIMA-The Prescott girls basketball team traveled to Riverside Christian on December 14th to play in their second game of the season. They won their first game in overtime at Dayton, against the D-W JV girls team. This game got off to a similar start. The first quarter belonged to Prescott and #32 Jean Rowlette, who poured in 10 points on shots in the lane. #12 Jamileth Saldana added an outside shot of her own to give the first quarter to Prescott 12-8. The second quarter had a lot of missed...
PRESCOTT—Prescott boys basketball played Garfield-Palouse on Friday December 13th for their first conference game of the year. #23 Miguel Ayala would open the scoring for Prescott with a bucket in the lane. Prescott took an early 6-3 lead in the first quarter, before losing the lead by giving up open three pointers to Garfield-Palouse. Those open shots allowed GP to go on a run and end the 1st quarter up 14-11. Late in the second quarter, #12 Jonathan Cardenas tied the game at 25-25 with 1:21 left with an NBA distance three pointer. Both teams...

Before getting to the matchup with Arizona let’s take a look at the playoff picture. With the Rams loss this past week, the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers are both in the playoffs. However, the seeding is very much up in the air. I’ll stick with just the possibilities between the 49ers and the Seahawks for the division title. Both teams have 11-3 records with two games left to play. They play each other in Seattle the last game of the regular season. Should the Seahawks win their remaining two games they will win the div...
Dayton-Waitsburg's fall athletic teams banquet theme seemed to be the future is bright at its Monday night at the Dayton Elementary multipurpose room. The only thing that could have gotten the message across better would have been to be playing Timbuk 3's song "The Future is so bright, I gotta wear shades," in the background during the ceremony. "The future is bright," Head Football Coach Troy Larsen explained. "These kids don't play just one spot and they each got better week by week." Larsen s...
Winter sports officially started this past week as the Dayton-Waitsburg girls opened up their basketball season with three games. They fell to St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse 59-28, to College Place 64-35, and 50-30 to Mac-Hi in their first home games of the season at the Dayton gymnasium. While things did not start off optimistically with three losses, the team came away with valuable lessons that will become instilled in them as the season progresses. “They now understand that they have to work hard for four quarters and to play 32 minutes,” sai...
PRESCOTT—Prescott boys basketball played Bickleton High School on Saturday December 7th for their second game in two nights. Like their first game of the season Prescott came out with high intensity and took control of the game early. Highlights: #3 Victor Garcia hit back to back jump shots from the corner to make it 10-4; #12 Jonathan Cardenas made a buzzer beater to make it 18-6 to end the 1st quarter. The second quarter began with several Tigers starters on the bench. After giving up 7 quick points in a row to start the quarter, those s...
Last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams was costly on two fronts. First it caused the Seattle Seahawks to drop back down to the 5th seed in the playoffs, and second, they lost running back Rashaad Penny for the the rest of the season with an ACL injury. Other injury news is more positive. It was revealed by Pete Carroll that Tyler Lockett had been dealing with a shin bruise for weeks but that it has finally healed. This explains Lockett's lack of production over the past several weeks. Both...
PRESCOTT- Prescott High School boys basketball hosted Moses Lake Christian on Friday December 6th to open the season schedule. The Prescott Tigers began the game scoring 17 unanswered points with a combination of pressure defense and fast break points. Highlights: #12 Jonathan Cardenas opening the scoring on an inside shot in the lane; #3 Victor Garcia scored...
Boys high school basketball kicked off the season in the area with the Dayton-Waitsburg High School's team's first home game of the year. Instead of good tidings, the Mac-Hi Pioneers arrived in a grinch-like mood and left town with a 46-33 victory. Dayton-Waitsburg dropped two other games last week, 78-56 to College Place and a close loss 59-48 at St.John-Endicott/LaCrosse. Despite losses against bigger schools, Coach Roy Ramirez felt the team is going to be fine as the season goes along. "It...
WALLA WALLA-The Walla Walla Valley is no stranger to talent, and the Valley Girls Barrel Racing Association is no exception. For those who aren't familiar with the club, the Valley Girls Barrel Racing Association (VGBRA) first gained traction in 1961, when the President of the Washington Barrel...

With last week’s win over the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks (10-2) now hold the 2nd seed in the NFC. The New Orleans Saints (10-2) are currently the 1st seed with their victory against Seattle early in the season. The Saints play the San Francisco 49ers (10-2) this week. The 49ers are currently the 5th seed since they lost their head to head matchup against the Seahawks a few weeks ago. A win over the Rams this week for Seattle would clinch a playoff spot. Looking at the matchup, t...
