WAITSBURG - Most 18-year-olds don't celebrate high school graduation by running a marathon -- but then most 18-year-olds aren't E.J. Meserve. On Sunday,June 22, Meserve ran as the youngest runner in the San Juan Island marathon, placing 15th out of 60 competitors. WAITSBURG - Twentynine WP gridders traveled to the Tri-Cities last week for their annual five-day spring football camp, where they played the majority of their games at Hanford High School. PRESCOTT - WP athletes and families gathered in the Prescott High School multipurpose room for the annual Spring Sports Award Dessert. Varsity softball coach Angie Potts introduced her team while commenting on each player. Potts said sophomore Jaidyn Brown pitched a total of 131 innings this year with 68 strike-outs and 54 walks. CHENEY - Dayton's top track athlete, Kaitlyn Andrews, took second place in the long jump at the Washington State Championship 2B track meet here on Saturday. Andrews also placed fourth in the javelin and triple jump, as well as seventh in the 100 meter dash. DAYTON - Spectators are invited to come and enjoy a new event in Dayton: a Barrel Racers National 4D meet. Barrel races will be held starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in the arena at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Andrews won both the javelin and long jump events at the 2B District 9 Championships here last week. She also took second in both the 100 meters and triple jump. ASOTIN - WP's softball team fell 5-1 against the Asotin Panthers in a May 13 loser-out league play game. The Lady Tigers improved greatly over their 10-1 and 10-2 double header loss games to the Panthers just days earlier, but not enough to take a win and extend their season.
