Cardinals Put the Hurt on Mabton

MABTON - The WP Cardinals extended their record to 4-1 with a dominating victory over Mabton Friday night on the road. The Cards built up a 26-6 halftime lead before cruising to a 46-8 final score.
Quarterback Owen Lanning had a big night, scoring four rushing touchdowns and throwing for a fifth. In all, Lanning rushed for 76 yards on 14 carries. He completed nine of 16 attempts, for 173 yards and had one pass intercepted.
Running back Chance Leroue had two touchdowns and rushed for a total of 118 yards on 12 carries. Wide receiver Devin Acevedo had five receptions for 86 yards.
Lanning and Leroue each scored in the first quarter, on runs of two and 14 yards. In the second quarter, lanning added two more short scoring runs. Leroue had a 22-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
On defense, the Cardinals dominated Mabton, forcing four interceptions by quarterback Roy Zavala. Three of those INT's came at the hands of Kobie Brown.
WP held Mabton to 45 rushing yards, and 143 passing yards. They churned out 363 total offensive yards of their own.
Next week is homecoming and senior night week in Waitsburg, with the Cardinals facing a tough Asotin team.
