The concept was developed by Waitsburg's Don Glover and an original photo finish camera is on display in the Waitsburg Historical Society's Bruce Memorial Museum. The Waitsburg Cardinals win big at District. Clay Lindsey ripped three consecutive home runs to help the Cards to a 14-7 win...
LYONS FERRY - The weather in the Snake River area may still have rain and chill in the air, but the recreational boating and fishing season is under way. That means breakfast for boaters and campers will be added at the restaurant seven days a week to the current lunch and dinner sched...
PRESCOTT CEMETERY THEFT PRESCOTT - Two benches at the Prescott Cemetery were stolen recently and areas of the cemetery have been vandalized, according to Mayor Libby McCaw. "Please help us and report to the Sheriff's Office if you see anything questionable." McCaw said she hopes to get a group of volunteers to help with maintenance and clean up of the cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day. TOWN...
A nyone who knows me knows I am a yoga freak, on my mat practicing each morning before coffee or hello. Yoga and stretching keeps me vital, limber and most at peace with everyone and everything around me. I have practiced this method of living for the better part of thirty years, in the garden through summer and on the living room floor in winter, there's just no stopping me. When I was asked to speak this year at the Green Festival in Seattle, May 21-22, I jumped at the chance. My lecture topic: "How we eat and think about food today," and my...

WALLA WALLA - When Duane Wollmuth travels to Anaheim, Calif., later this month, it won't be to get a break from Southeast Washington's cold and rainy spring. Wollmuth and two other members of a new partnership will go down there to sell businesses from around the country on a different weather feature prevalent in this corner of the state, or at least the industry that takes advantage of its energy: wind. Ten Years Ago May 3, 2000 Farewell to a good and faithful servant-a photo essay tribute to the elevator at the Waits Mill. Built in the 1870s, a final record of the structure before it meets the wrecking ball, for the part it played in our town's history was not trivial and is worth being remembered. Waitsburg's American Legion Post No. 38 hosted the 12th District Spring Celebration at Ye Towne Hall. Nichole and Rhonda Eastwood proudly display the medals they won in the 2001 Special Olympics Regional Finals held in Spokane. The girls are the da...

This week I visited my old friend and associate Chef/ Organic Activist Jesse Cool. Back in the early '90s, Jesse asked me to take her place as Executive Chef at her popular Flea Street Café in Menlo Park, California, while she wrote her first cookbook titled, "Tomatoes." Today, with five cookbooks and three restaurants to her credit, she invites me to dinner and picks my brain for cutesy titles for future recipes. This time however, I can't spit any off-the-cuff ideas to her because I have a cookbook on a publisher's table, and rules state it's...

Longtime elementary teacher Margie Douglas, together with her late husband Dee, came up with an idea - chess and checkers tournaments. "Thus giving the students an alternative to going out in the cold weather," Douglas said. "They have so much fun. Every year...
