Fifteen Years Ago

Riding shotgun in a World War II jeep, Veteran Jim Hansen greets other Veterans before the start of the parade, which honored them and coincided with Armed Forces Day.

DHS junior Caitlin Riley takes on her padded principal, Andy Maheras, in a session designed to teach girls the basics of self-defense. Sophomore Chandra Richardson, WYCA's Ann Passmore and Deputy Columbia County Prosecutor June Riley look on.

April Students of the Month for Waitsburg Elementary are Sierra Vezina (4th Grade), and Taylor Jones and Anna Nerf (5th Grade).

Steve McMunn and Teeny McMunn have been business partners for almost two and a half decades. They recently moved their carpet store to Dayton's Main Street.

After Saturday's parade, Jim and Geraine Hansen and 101 family members and friends marked their May birthdays. Jim turned 90 on May 19 and Geraine will be 88 on May 29. Jim, a World War II Veteran, was honored along with many of his peers in the parade.

W.H.S graduation at WWCC Friday. Marshal McKinley, valedictorian, Kate Ahmann, salutatorian, Rachel Lambert, honor speaker and Scott Mason, honor speaker.

Ten names were dedicated at the second Memorial Day ceremony by the Veteran's Memorial Wall at the Waitsburg City Cemetery Monday as townspeople turned out to remember those who served in uniform for our country. Ken Smith, a long-time wheat rancher and World War II veteran, attended and received a poppy from American Legion Auxiliary member B. A. Keve.

Haly Ingle competed in the 1,600 m. run, representing the Cardinals as a freshman. She finished 12th under a blazing, hot sun. Holly Robinson brought home an 8th place medal from the State Track Meet for her efforts in the 400 m.

Fifty Years Ago

May 27, 1976

Herman Gohlman was honored for his long and faithful service to the Days of Real Sport as Secretary and general ramrod. He enjoyed the ride and numerous friends and acquaintances who lined the streets Saturday morning.

Becky Zuger proudly bears the Bicentennial flag in the Days of Real Sport Parade here last Saturday. Becky was carrying this special banner with the Waitsburg High School Band.

Seventy-Five Years Ago

June 1, 1951

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lawrence attended a horse show in Pullman Saturday where they showed their two Arabian fillies, Abla and Kahlda in the halter class. Abla won 3rd place in the show.

Graduating seniors were honored Tuesday evening at a progressive dinner party starting with a swimming party at the Glen Smith home followed by the first course at J. A. Alexander home; picnic at the Henry Zuger home and dessert at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rankin.

One-Hundred Years Ago

June 4, 1926

Ground has been actually broken this week at the site of our new high school.

Master Billy Vollmer celebrated his 11th birthday anniversary last Thursday by inviting in a number of friends for the afternoon. A number of exciting games were played, and later in the day, refreshments were served.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

June 7, 1901

Mrs. J. H. Morrow and in the evening their friends, to about the number of 40 dropped in on them unexpectedly, the ladies dressed in their wedding dresses in the styles of years ago.

Jay Moe has taken the job of breaking horses. His proportions are so nearly those of a bear that a fall or a roll is of little consequence.
