DAYTON — “Michael” portrays the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists ever to perform. It is the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the talented lead of the Jackson Five to the visionary artist whose ambition made him the biggest entertainer in the world.
The film highlights his life off-stage and his iconic performances from his early solo career. Audiences will experience Michael Jackson as never seen before.
The cast includes Jaafar Jackson, Nia Long, Colman Domingo, and Jayden Harville. It is rated PG-13 for some thematic material, language, and smoking and has a runtime of 127 minutes.
The Rotten Tomatoes critics and audience are on completely different sides about the film. The audience rates it a 97%, noting Jaffar Jackson’s portrayal of Michael.
The critics wrote, “While Jaafar Jackson’s smooth moves bring the King of Pop to uncanny life, this musical biopic mostly plays like a greatest hits album.” They rated it a low 39%. Be the judge yourself and come see it at The Liberty Theater.
The theater’s Fall Production, “The Wizard of OZ” will be having an information night on May 14 at 6 p.m. in the theater auditorium. Auditions for kids 5 to 14 will be on June 1 at 6 p.m. Adult auditions will be on June 3 at 6 p.m. Anyone who could not attend the prior dates can audition on June 4.
