DAYTON — This bold new take on the beloved classic invites you to experience the extraordinary sisterhood of three women who share one unbreakable bond.

This new movie is rated highly by both critics and the audience (82% and 95% favorable) on the Rotten Tomatoes website. That website’s critics consensus is “Building on the legacy of the previous film adaptation while incorporating elements of the stage musical, “The Color Purple” is a crowd-pleasing testament to resilience in the face of trauma.” The audience says “Much more than a remake, the musical film version of “The Color Purple” stands on its own as a vibrant, uplifting experience -- and the singing and dancing are superb. Some reviewers did not think the musical aspects of this movie were appropriate considering the serious subject matter of this movie. The movie is rated PG-13 for mature thematic content, sexual content, violence and language. The IMDb parent’s guide classified all categories considered as moderate. Runtime is 140 minutes.
