At the Liberty:"The Phoenician Scheme"

DAYTON — From Director Wes Anderson, “The Phoenician Scheme” tells the story of a family and their business. Wealthy businessman Zsa-zsa Korda names his only daughter, a nun, as the sole heir to his fortune. As Korda starts a new venture, they quickly become targets of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists, and relentless assassins. The cast features Michael Cera, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Hanks, Hope Davis, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Rupert Friend, Benedict Cumberbatch, Riz Ahmed, Richard Ayoade, and Mia Threapleton.

“The Phoenician Scheme” has been well received by critics on RottenTomatoes.com, who gave it a rating of 79%. One said, “A caper made with all the intricacy of a Rube Goldberg machine, “The Phoenician Scheme” doesn’t deviate from Wes Anderson’s increasingly ornate style but delivers the formula with mannered delicacy.”

The audience rated the film slightly lower, at 70%. One reviewer said, “I love Wes Anderson movies so much because of the quirkiness of his stories. They are genuinely so unique and different, but it is so hard not to get caught up in the stories and become invested in the story.”  Rated: PG-13 for violent content, bloody images, some sexual material, nude images, and smoking throughout. Runtime is 101 minutes.
