BENTON CITY – After sitting out the first four meets of the season due to eligibility issues, WP's Kobie Brown showed up at the SCAC meet here on a mission. Competing against athletes from three 1A schools – Kiona-Benton, Columbia-Burbank and River View – Brown won the high jump, long jump and 300 meter hurdles. He also finished 4th in the 100 meters.

Teammate Owen Lanning finished second to Brown in both the 300 hurdles and the long jump. Lanning won the 110 meter hurdles and the Triple Jump.

"[Brown and Lanning] now, in both hurdles, will be a force in our league," said WP Coach Jeff Bartlow. "Owen ended up high point for us (28) and Kobie second at 26.  It will be a good one-two punch for us as we approach districts."

For WP's girls, Emily Adams won the 800 meters and the triple jump. She also recorded a 1st place in the 3200 meter run, though she was the only competitor.

WP sophomore Travis Crockett also had an excellent meet, finishing 2nd in the 100 and 200 meters and 3rd in the high jump. Junior Tewedros McDowell also had a very good day, finishing 2nd in the 800 meters and 3rd in the 1600.

"[Crockett's] 200 finish was a photo finish and the best race of the day," Bartlow said. "Tewedros is a competitor and we like where he is right now."

In a field of three, WP sophomore Skylar Wood came away with a victory in the 3200 meters, and sophomore Cameron Terry finished second to Lanning in the triple jump.

Brown, Lanning and Adams have all qualified for the Pasco Invite Meet, which will be held Saturday (see box at right). The WP team will compete next at the Irish Invite, Wednesday at Martin Field in Walla Walla.
