A Waitsburg second- and third-grade boys basketball team has been competing in the Small Schools Little League since January 10. The league includes 119 boys and girls teams this year.
The Waitsburg team plays on Saturdays in Dayton, Asotin, Pomeroy, or Lewiston. The games have twenty-minute halves, and teams play in two or three games each Saturday.
Waitsburg's boys team is coached by Abby Grende and sponsored by Rural Youth Enrichment Services (RYES), McGregor's, and Grende's Occupational Therapy, who provided jerseys, and Whiskey C provided the basketballs.
On Saturday, February 21, the boys played in Dayton. The first game was fast and furious. The boys sprinted down the floor, put up shots, jumped for rebounds, and were not afraid to dive for loose balls.
Team members are Myles Grende, Ryker Frasco, Phoenix Stahl, Israel Stahl, Asher Hilton, Jimmy Watson, Oliver Castillo, and Finn Huxoll.
The boys will wrap up their season in Lewiston on February 28.
