The WP Lady Cardinals Volleyball Team are licking some bruises and soaking sore muscles after a very long and hot first week of practice. Angie Potts begins her first season as head coach for the Cardinals and Wendy Richards will assist. The Lady Cards lost four 2010 seniors, including league standout Genesis Pearson who now plays for Blue Mountain Community College. Seven seniors return to Kison court to put in their bid for the district title. Leading the group are outside hitter and all-around blocker Ronnie Hulce and starting setter Kayla Huxoll. Together these two should prove to be a deadly duo for the 2011 season.

Towns have "dog problems" in eastern Washington, believes Kate Hockersmith, who conducts the Canine Good Citizen training classes that allow Waitsburg dog owners to halve their licensing fees. Some Waitsburg dog owners may be well on the road to changing that situation. "There's no doubt about it in my mind," Hockersmith said. "You can't pick up the local papers without reading something negative about dogs. It's gotten to the point where sometimes we forget that for every unreliable, potentially dangerous dog that makes it to the headlines, there are hundreds of happy pooches being totally ignored by the media."

Miss Doris Kay Ruff became the bride of Marvin L. Huffman at an 8 o'clock ceremony Wednesday at the Evangelical Peace Church in Walla Walla.

Bob Wright returned Wednesday from Camp Wallowa where he served as junior counselor during the past camping season.

Wm Westerman left Thursday evening by plane for Palau, an island in the South Pacific where he has a position with the Department of Interior as an agriculture instructor.

September 3, 1926

Mrs. F. T. Keiser, having disposed of her boarding house "The Grove" at Walla Walla, Mr. and Mrs. Keiser have taken up their residence at the Keiser home on Fourth Street, this city.

Articles of incorporation for the First Presbyterian Church were filed with the county auditor Monday. Trustees named were G. G. Bickelhaupt, C. E. Chaffee and N. W. Pritchard.

A. E. Balch who lives in the Whetstone valley, about a half mile above the Fred Smith place, says he lost four wagons in the deluge of last week.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

September 6, 1901

Quite a large number of friends of Mrs. P. J. Denney gave her a surprise party on last Thursday, that being her forty-third birthday. Each lady took a block for a quilt and a very pleasant time is reported.

The pipe and fittings for the water main extensions arrived on Sunday and were distributed along the line of excavation Monday and Tuesday.

J. A. Stonecipher the father of the Stonecipher boys, arrived in the city Monday from Irvington, Ill. on a visit of a few weeks.
