DAYTON - The Dayton Spring Sports Awards Banquet took place in the Dayton Elementary multi-purpose room the evening of June 30.
Head softball coach Terry Robins, accompanied by assistant coach Desirae Jones, congratulated the Lady Bulldogs on an outstanding season and their excellent performance at the state playoffs in Yakima, where they placed fourth. The duo shared career stats and bid an emotional farewell to the senior players they first began working with as sixth graders.
Head baseball coach Sal Benavides and volunteer coach Chris Smith presented awards, encouraging the players to "fully commit" to the team and game and anticipate a great season next spring.
Head track coach Dan Nechodom thanked Dayton staff, and especially custodian Jim Gallaher, for their support and service.
Nechodom shared anecdotes about the players with special congratulations to Kaitlyn Andrews for her performance at the State Meet.
Nechodom called forth Levi Laib, Matthew Warren, Andrew Mendoza and Tyler Cooper for special recognition, thanking them for helping carry the coach's load and saying they were "the kind of kids I want representing me in this community when I get old."
