WP Boys Win Colfax Meet

WP distance Runner Seth Deal leads two Asotin runners during a meet in Dayton last month.

COLFAX - James Thompkins won the 100, 200 and 400 meter races and anchored the winning 4 x 100 relay team, as WP overwhelmed the competition at the NE 1B/2B League Meet in Colfax April 30.

WP scored 151.5 points, ahead of a distant Colfax, with 92.5 points in second.

James Thompkins is coming off a sprained ankle and shined with four first places," said WP Coach Jeff Bartlow. "His 400 was a bit off, but his 100 and 200 were both PR's and he anchored the 4x1 (Alex Dill, Dalton Lerue, Luke Alexenko & James) that won it."

Seth Deal won both the 1600 and 3200 meter races. "His 1600 was close to his best of the year," Bartlow said.

WP sophomore Jada Alfred was second in the 800 meters, with a four-second personal record. "He was really tough and ran a great race," said Bartlow. " He is such a hard worker and lost at the finish line."

WP also got a winning high jump from Kobie Brown, at 5'-10", while Ben Shafer won the shot put with a throw of 44'-11".

"Stacia Deal was the highlight for the ladies side with two PR's in the sprints and a sixth place finish in the 200," said Bartlow. "She is coming off a really sore knee and has missed two meets in a row. Nice to see her back in the mix and competing hard."

The WP girls finished 10th at the meet, with 13 points. Bartlow noted that several girls missed the meet because of a "Youth in Government" trip.

For Dayton, sophomore Kaitlyn Andrews continued her domination of the Girls' javelin events. She won with a throw of 120'-4", about 2½ feet off her PR. Andrews also placed third in the 100 meters and sixth in the shot put. Andrews led the Dayton Girls to a ninth-place finish, with 25 points.

The very young Dayton boys' team finished 11th, with one point.
