TOUCHET -- The Waitsburg Prescott boys baseball team took down the Touchet Indians Tuesday night 10-5 after a tough game with several big hits and close calls.

The WP boys opened strong with three runs in the first inning to Touchet's two.

In the second inning, neither team scored. In the third, WP brought two runs around, pulling ahead against Touchet's one run in the third.

As the score gap widened, play intensified with big hits from both teams to the fence and beyond testing outfielders' speed and abilities.

WP brought four more runs around in the sixth to Touchet's two despite the Indians' movement around the bases.

At the end of the game, Touchet just couldn't match WP's strong hitters, speed and score.

WP baseball head coach Dustin Snedigar said the team struggled the most on the mound.

Pitcher Nolan Allen lunges down the mound.

"We walked seven and hit three guys," Snedigar said. "We gave them 10 bases."

Snedigar said WP needs to tighten the ability to throw strikes and shape up on the mound.

The hits, however, helped the team greatly.

"We hit the ball really well," Snedigar said. "We talked about hitting the ball the other way and we did that today with guys in scoring positions."

Snedigar said he was really pleased with how calm the team stayed despite the close innings and tough competition.

Overall, the team is a good group of kids, Snedigar said, which helps them work as a strong unit.

After spring break, the team will work on breaking some bad habits, Snedigar said, and making some adjustments to help make them an even stronger team.
