Tigers Scratch Bulldogs

PRESCOTT -- WP earned a hard-fought win in game one in the eighth inning on Saturday afternoon, 3-2.

An extra inning was initiated when the bases were full in the seventh inning with the score tied, Dayton hit the ball to the Tigers' shortstop and WP got the third out on second base.

"( Bulldog pitcher) Lowden Smith gave the Dayton team a great chance," said, Dayton coach Sal Benavides. "We had some costly errors in the fourth and eighth innings," said Benavides.

Zach Bartlow also had an RBI triple in game one and Kyle Dozier had a two-out double.

Joe Yenney had a RBI double in the sixth inning.

"Defense played well but costly errors and walks will haunt you," said Benavides.

Colton Bickelhaupt had three hits in the first game.

WP's Zach Bartlow struck out 12 and Dalton Estes hit in the game-winning run.

Both (Smith of Dayton and Bartlow of WP) were battling all day on the mound and had great command of their pitches.

In the second game, WP came out quickly and kept it going and collected a 12-3 win to complete the sweep. Dalton Estes had two hits in game two and David Herzog picked up the win on the mound. David Herzog and Dalton Estes both pitched well in the second game.

"Both wins are big as we head into six-straight league games," said WP's head coach Dustin Snedigar.

WP plays at Tekoa-Oaksdale Rosalia next Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rosalia.

Record is 6-4 and 4-2 in league

The next game for the Bulldogs will be against DeSales on Tuesday and two games against Asotin this week as well.

"Bulldogs will get back to the drawing board, but with seven games to be played in the next seven days there won't be much time for practices," said Benavides.
