  • Cheers: Fearless musician

    Lane Gwinn, The Times|Sep 8, 2022

WAITSBURG—On Sunday night at American 35, Dominic Fazzari was drawn to the vintage upright piano. Diners were given a mini concert by the talented 13 year old from Walla Walla. The young muscian commanded attention with his first song, Bohemian Rhasody by Queen. He said he started playing five years ago and takes piano lessons from Ilene Tyler. His teacher has encouraged his journey, allowing him to investigate his taste in music. Asked how he chose the music he plays, he credited a youtube c...

  • Cheers for Mama Monicelli

    Gail Gwinn, The Times|Apr 15, 2021

My favorite time for dessert is after breakfast, a little motivation before I start checking off my list of Things I Don't Want To Do. Sometimes we have something special on hand, like Sarah's beautifully sculpted cupcakes, Daniel's Tres Leches Cake from CounterFeat at Blue Mountain Station, Luke's Sticky Banoffee Cake, or Chocolate Crinkle Cookies from Ten Ton Coffee. All good! Lately, my new perfect go-to for my daily sugar fix is Mama Monicelli's Sea Salt Bark, also from Blue Mountain...

    The Times|Jan 21, 2021

A shout out to the friendly and fast response I received from City of Waitsburg’s public works specialists, Devin Griffen and Kyle Gradwohl. This morning, as the two city workers were attending to a repair on a Main Street sidewalk, I told them about a concern I had about water coming into the basement of my commercial building on Main St. More a soaking than a leaking, but disconcerting and new to the building. After they finished their work, they went back to the office and relayed my issue with Jim Lynch who immediately sent them back to c...

Lane and Bill, I’ve mentioned to you both that I get a subscription to The Times for my aunt in Little Rock, Arkansas. She loves the paper, the small-town vibe, and Bill’s photos. She sent this email yesterday under the line, “Phabulous Photos”: ....by Bill Rodgers! I really love a couple of recent ones—especially the December 17 photo of red barns, with a background of those rolling hills dusted with snow and the December 10 photo with frosted branches foreground and the hills behind. And how many newspapers are clever enough to have a pa...

  • Watching out for our neighbors

    The Times|Oct 1, 2020

Cheers to the friends and neighbors who helped watch out for their neighborhood here in Waitsburg. A vehicle most recently connected to possible drug-related activity at the Waitsburg fairground was left abandoned in front of a residence on Orchard Street. The circumstances of how it was left caused concern for those on the block. With quick action from Walla Walla Sheriffs and concerned citizens, the unlicensed and unregistered R.V. was towed and impounded, pending location of the owner. This...
