Valentine's Day is synonymous with lots of chocolate, candy hearts, flowers, and anything red, pink and white. It is my favorite holiday. Since Valentine's Day is not until next Thursday, I pondered whether to put in a recipe to use on Valentine's Day this week or next. When I searched for Valentine recipes, there was an assortment of red Jello, Red Velvet Cake, etc, along with suggestions of meals. I figured out that many were called Valentine's Day meals, but could really be any holiday meal. I do have a great chocolate cake recipe, which I h...

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Jan 31, 2019

I was trying to think of a Super Bowl recipe or something that may work beside pizza, chips and dip, and chili. I thought this might be good for a main meal or something not too heavy and ready to eat. And with most soups, you can add or subtract according to taste. The preview of this recipe says they used low-sodium chicken broth and fresh chilies instead of canned, along with skinless, boneless chicken breasts. INGREDIENTS: 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into trips 1 tsp chili powder ¼ tsp ground black pepper 1 tsp...

This recipe came from The Country Cook and got a 5 star rating. I'll copy some of the comments as I found them interesting and informative. Pastrami or Corned Beef? The article says, "I believe the traditional Reuben sandwich is made with corned beef. " Then it goes on to say, "Corned beef is boiled and pastrami is smoked. They are both brined beforehand. Additional seasoning is also put in that brine, (which is basically salt, water and sugar) where it soaks for a long period of time. Then...

  • Teeny McMunn: My Recipe Box

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Jan 17, 2019

Before I go into my recipe, I'll share some thoughts, as it has to do with food. On my way home from Spokane, I stopped at a Colfax gas station as I usually do. I bought a "small" bag of Kettle Corn, my travel food. It keeps me busy with eating a few pieces at a time and actually got me past the Lewiston/Walla Walla junction. And yes I ate the whole bag, but here is my complaint. When I got home, it said it had four servings in it. NO WAY. One serving was 140 calories, so I'm sticking to the story that if I finished it in one serving, the b...

Waitsburg is experiencing an especially mild winter, thus far, but that certainly wasn't the case in 1969. The front page headline in the Jan. 2, 1969 issue of The Times read "9" Snow and 24° below zero hit area." The lead story began: "A snow storm which dumped nearly 10 inchese of the unusual white stuff everywhere in the area was the news story of the week. Accompanied by temperatures in the area which fell to 24 below zero, the show which began Friday night fell most of the weekend,...
