Bear sighting at Tucannon

TUCANNON - WARNING: there are bears at Tucannon Lakes. The kiosk warns visitors about bears in the area and to carry bear spray.

I've traveled to the Tucannon for over fifty years with family and friends on day trips and for overnight camping. I had never seen signs of a bear until recently. I saw a bear walk down the trail to the back side of the lake on a sunny afternoon. He quietly put his paw in the water and caught a fish. He returned up the trail, perhaps to feed in private or to feed cubs. Shortly, the bear returned and caught another fish before going back up the trail.

Many people camp in the area, and some even allow their children to walk the trail to the lake alone. So beware, there is a bear in the area.
