WAITSBURG - On Monday, May 26, 2025, community members gathered at the Waitsburg City Cemetary to honor the men and women who sacrificed for our freedoms. The guest speaker for the Memorial Day Ceremony was from the Corps of Recovery and Discovery, a transitional housing program in Walla Walla and College Place.
CORD is a cooperative effort between the WW Veterans Administration Medical Center, the WW Housing Authority, and Valley Residential Service to provide housing and other services to veterans. It focuses on breaking the cycle of homelessness through a continuum of healthcare treatment, encompassing recovery, skills development, residential stability, and community engagement.
Members from CORD presented the Waitsburg American Legion Auxillary a wooden plaque created in the program's wood shop.
Auxillary President Rose Englebrite said, "We appreciate that this award was created by members of CORD. We have enjoyed contributing to the program, including house-warming and Christmas gifts to CORD veterans."
