This monthly column, written by former firefighter and paramedic Randy Charles, is aimed at providing area residents, who are faced with a medical or traumatic event, some kind of knowledge and skills that can be utilized to help a stricken individual while waiting for EMS. • Teeny McMunn: My Recipe Box

    Teeny McMunn, The Times|Apr 25, 2019

I've been seeing fresh asparagus in the stores and this recipe came in my news feed so I took that as a hint. It turned out very flavorful and didn't take long to put together. I like when two people team up to put a dish together which happens a lot in my household. One person cooked up the bacon and onion (which I added) and I got the crust and filling ready. INGREDIENTS: 1 pound fresh asparagus trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces 10 slices bacon 2 (8 inch) unbaked pie shells 1 egg white,...

  • Easter Brunch Casserole

    Teeny McMunn, THE TIMES|Apr 18, 2019

This is one I haven't made, but thought it might be an idea for those who are having guests for Easter morning. It looks hearty enough to "stick to your ribs" until Easter dinner. Plus, it is a make-ahead dish, which is a bonus. Do you have a traditional Easter dinner? Ham and scalloped potatoes, lamb, or perhaps go out to dinner or brunch? I saw a fun idea while searching for a recipe for this week. Everyone has their favorite deviled egg recipe, but in this recipe, they took the hard-cooked...

  • Tech Talk: Fax Apps

    Brianna Wray, THE TIMES|Apr 18, 2019

One might assume that the facsimile, or fax as it came to be known, is a thing of the past. Faxes are obsolete technology from the days of screeching modems and are better relegated to the past along with floppy disks. If you're faxing in 2019, you might as well pull out a chisel and slab of limestone. Why not send a telegram? Or spend 6-8 weeks raising a homing pigeon. They fly between 600 and 800 miles a day. Surely that's faster and more rewarding than sending a fax. The idea of faxing today...

Ten Years Ago April 16, 2009 Waitsburg and the surrounding country roads will again play a big role in the 2009 Tour of Walla Walla bicycle stage race and some changes in play this year promise to boost the excitement level and foster strategizing in the final laps of the road race, organizers say. Two member Wheatland Wheelers Cycling Club, Clint Froke and Bryan Lubbers, are certified League Cycling Instructors (LCI;s) for this year’s bike race. They join two other LCI’s in the community, Pat...

  • Blueberry Buttermilk Coffeecake

    Teeny McMunn, THE TIMES|Apr 11, 2019

This is the recipe this week because I needed to come up with something for our church morning potluck and clean-up day. And I needed to use the buttermilk I had. I have plenty of frozen blueberries from last summer. Google makes it so easy to find recipes. I have decided I could go into business called “Potluck Café.” I do like to bake and I do like to share. This recipe makes a large 9" x 13" pan, so as I have mentioned before, bake and share with someone, or anyone and they will appreciate it...

  • Cheers!

    THE TIMES|Apr 4, 2019

** A small gesture yet a huge impact for me. A while ago, at Macy’s, I was asked for my ID. It always is a struggle for me to get my driver’s license out of its compartment as the fit is tight. Finally, I got it out and she said, let me add this onto your drivers license for you. She took a piece of scotch tape, put part of it of one side, folded it and put the other sticky side to the back, creating a “pull tab,” than handed it back to me. I have mentally thanked her many times for that act of kindness....
