At right are some of the ladies that pitched in to help make a successful Waitsburg's Annual Lions Club Rib Feed held last Saturday evening in the Don Thomas Building at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds. DAYTON – The Dayton School District has hired a K-12 school counselor, to start next fall. Susan Stege is a certified school counselor with experience in individual and group counseling, and in working with parents. DAYTON – Filing for 2017 elections in Columbia and Walla Walla Counties will open next week. Positions are open for Dayton and Starbuck city councils, Dayton, Waitsburg and Starbuck school boards, local fire districts, Columbia County Hospital District and the Port of Columbia. WALLA WALLA – Approximately 320 people attended Columbia REA's 79th annual meeting at College Place High School in April 20. New board member, Neil Carpenter of Waitsburg, was elected to represent District 3, while Greg Knowles of Walla Walla (Dist. 1), and Vic Parks of Burgank (Dist. 2) were each re-elected. Members of the Waitsburg Garden Club were busy planting the Main Street planters this year. Members welcome passers-by to keep the planters looking lovely by deadheading plants as they walk by and request that everyone clean up after their dogs if they make use of the Main Street tree bases. The community service organization will award their final scholarship this June, but intends to maintain its tradition of encouraging students.
