To the Editor, I am voting YES to approve the Waitsburg Parks and Recreation District (WPR) levy on Nov. 4. As a parent, community member, and WPR commissioner, there are many reasons why I support a new pool in Waitsburg. Camaraderie. For 100 years, Waitsburg had a swimming pool. It was a gathering place for family and friends. Kids rode their bikes to the pool, for lessons, to meet friends, to play, and to beat the heat. They picked up snacks and drinks at the grocery store on the way. Families had BBQs and cooled off in the pool. Adult swim...

"I asked Jill, 'Who needs Betty Crocker when they have a subscription to The Waitsburg Times?' I made Mr. Chavez's recently published Salisbury Steak recipe tonight, and it was terrific! It turned out just as described-- an impressive and satisfying weeknight meal. Thank you for continuing to share his recipes. Fred Antonius, Spokane, Wash....

"When students participate in mass band concerts, they get to feel and play what the composers wanted their pieces to sound like when a large band executes the piece with all instrumentation. The sound becomes magical and expressive with meaning. I was very proud of our three girls from the high school band," said...

Autumn is my favorite time of year for celebrations centered around food. High on the list is the colorful and distinctly Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos. In our house, the mantle is turned into an ofrenda with photos of departed family members, marigolds, and candles. On the night of November 1st, I prepare a feast to be enjoyed by the living and shared with the spirits of the dead. These spiced beef enchiladas embrace the season with roasted pumpkin and a rich, deeply flavored...
