Letter to the Editor

Vote “YES” on Proposition NO 1 when you receive your upcoming ballot.

A public swimming pool enriches the quality of life for our community. This Proposition helps finance operations & expenses to have a public swimming pool again.

It’s been almost 10 years that citizens of Columbia County have been without a public swimming pool.  Not everyone has access to public pools at other locations.  A generation of local children are growing up without learning basic water safety skills and the joy of playing, or swimming in the water.  Teenagers don’t have swim related jobs for summer work.  Adults don’t have the joy of exercise classes or swimming in a pool. Everyone loses out on the friendships & companionship of a public swimming pool.

The Columbia County Parks & Recreation Pool District Commissioners have been working hard to raise money for a pool.  They have applied for numerous Grants, Many require matching funds. They have conducted fund raising events. They have studied various styles of pools to select one that would best suit the needs of our community. 

The Pool District Commissioners have hired professionals to confirm the best long life location for a new pool.  It will be constructed where the previous pool was. They also need funds to update the pool house and facilities to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Mechanical shop at the pool.

Proposition No 1 needs to be passed so the commissioners can continue their work and install a new swimming pool as soon as possible.  A public pool enriches the quality of life for everyone in our community.
