Cardinal Football began at Jamboree

WAITSBURG-Waitsburg High School's football team participated in a jamboree on Friday, Aug 28 in Pomeroy against Tekoa-Rosalia, Dayton, DeSales, Pomeroy and Liberty Christian.

Coach Gabe Kiefel said the jamboree was a good first outing for Cardinal football. The team played a total of forty snaps. They played ten snaps on offense against both Liberty Christian and Dayton, and ten snaps on defense against both Tekoa-Rosalia and Pomeroy. Kiefel said it was a great chance to see where the team is and what they need to work on. The jamboree is a little more serious than practice, but not as serious as a game.

The team ran the ball well against Liberty Christian. They struggled at first to connect on passes, then the coaches made a few tweaks to the run game which they put into action.

"Lash LaRue has been working hard as our offensive coordinator, making adjustments to the personnel," said Kiefel. "Jake Lynch ran hard; JJ Gleason scrambled for some yardage, and Uriah York made a couple catches for yards."

The Cardinals stopped Tekoa-Rosalia on defense; stopping the run and their passing game. Defensively, the Cardinals struggled against Pomeroy's run game. Nonetheless, they had some good tackles and got more aggressive throughout the scrimmage. York, Landen Henry, Liam Kiefel, Alex Zuniga, and Lynch all had good, fundamental tackles.

"We ended on a high note on offense against Dayton.  Lynch, Gleason, and Camdyn Vories all had good runs.  Henry and York each had receptions for positive yards. Out of the ten plays, we found the endzone four times," said Kiefel.
