The new face behind the counter at the Weller Public Library is likely one you have seen before. Rosie Warehime, the new library manager, has lived in Waitsburg for 44 years. Her husband Walt found his first teaching job in Waitsburg. "We planned to stay 2 years and we never left," she said. Warehime hadn't ever worked at a library before, but she had been employed at the Cenex station and at local grain growers, making her a recognizable face in the community and the perfect person to lead the library, said Jim Leid, the chairman of the library board.

It's not often the newspaper is involved in making the news, but Tuesday of this week, there was an exception. The Times became the first site in Waitsburg to get a high-speed wireless broadband Internet connection from local Internet Service Provider (ISP) Touchet Valley Communications (TVC). Internet surfers in the Touchet Valley and the Silicon Valley now have service that is technologically equal. "We now have the same Internet speeds as anyone in Walla Walla, Spokane, Seattle or anywhere," said Dan Cole of TVC. "We are ready to start installations."

Joy Johnson, sixth grade student, was awarded a blue ribbon at the Walla Walla County Fair on workmanship and modeling of her 4-H school outfit.

Waitsburg students who plan to attend Washington State College this fall include Bill Zuger, Bob Leid, Dave Dilts, Jack Roberts, Bob Loundagin, Lynn Pearson, Bob Pastton, Jim Stonecipher, Bob Collins, and Howard Smith.

A fire at the Don Thomas farm Thursday morning destroyed completely the bunk house, but firemen were able to save some nearby buildings which were threatened.

One Hundred Years Ago

September 10, 1926

Orin Walker exhibited the best pears at the community exhibit last Saturday. Honey in the comb, Frank McCown, 1st; Will Phillips, 2nd and C. N. Eaton, 3rd.

Miss Lillian Segraves and Frank Wardrip were married in Walla Walla, Tuesday evening, Aug. 31.

Mrs. Winnie Harmon of the telephone exchange, who is on her vacation, accompanied her brother Roy Wright to Yakima Sunday for a visit with her sister Mrs. H. J. Allison and family.

One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago

September 13, 1901

Cards are out announcing the wedding of Miss Ethel Miller to Mr. Clyde Brown which is to take place in Spokane on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1901.

Roy Grey who for the past few years has been in the employ of Frank McCown, left this week for Sheridan, Wyo. where he has accepted a position with S. G. Marvin in the meat business.

Mrs. D. H. Harris moved from her ranch north of this city last week. Charles Harris has leased the ranch and he and his family will make their home there.
