June 12 – 16
DAYTON — “Pressure” is a tense WWII drama based on true events. It portrays the critical 72 hours before D-Day as meteorologist James Stagg advises Allied commander Dwight D. Eisenhower on the forecast that decided the invasion’s timing. Andrew Scott and Brendan Fraser give gripping performances for fans of historical and character-driven thrillers.
“Pressure” is rated PG-13 for war violence, bloody images, some strong language, and smoking. The runtime is 100 min.
In honor of the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, Veterans will receive a $1.00 off of admission for this movie.
After the weekend opening of “Pressure,” Liberty Theater patrons described it as “incredible,” “powerful,” and “amazing.”
On Rotten Tomatoes, critics’ comments include: “Finding a fresh angle on one of the most dramatized days in military history” and “‘Pressure’ is a brainy war film that derives most of its thrills from Andrew Scott’s simmering performance.” The audience gave the movie a strong rating of 95%, with one patron writing, “The tension kept the movie pulsing forward. Brandon Fraser did an excellent job portraying Eisenhower with the weight of D-Day on his shoulders.”
The Summer Children’s Enrichment Program (SCEP) is a free series beginning on Tuesday, June 16, at 1 p.m. with the movie “Open Season.” The series runs every Tuesday and Friday at 1 p.m. and is free to attend. A small soda or water and a small popcorn will be available for only $2.00.
More information is available at libertytheater.org. Additional family summer events include a performance by Alex Zerbe on July 2 at 1:30 and the Missoula Children’s Theater on August 3-8.
This year on Saturday, June 20, during All Wheels Weekend, The Liberty will screen a locally produced documentary, “Roll Modelz.” It is a 12.5-minute award-winning documentary that shows how the often-misunderstood culture of lowrider cars brings people together, especially during times of loss. The film tells the story of the WA State Lowriders Car Club, based in Walla Walla, and how they honor the memory of Mya Kay Avila. This documentary film will be shown free, multiple times on loop between 11 and 3 p.m. Stop in, enjoy the AC, a free film, and popcorn with real butter. Be sure to check out some of the clubs’ lowriders parked in front of the theater for All Wheels.
Upcoming movies: “Pressure” June 12-16; “Star Wars: Mandalorian & Grogu” June 19-23. The schedule is always subject to change.
