Waitsburg, Dayton student musicians perform at Spring Concert

WAITSBURG — On May 18, Waitsburg Secondary School’s band and guitar classes teamed up with the Dayton High School band for the annual Spring Concert at the WHS Auditorium. Waitsburg’s music teacher, Elizabeth Arebalos-Jagelski, and Dayton’s music teacher, Amy Gillick, directed the event.

Waitsburg guitar class members, Lencio Flores and Mitchell Hays, were accompanied by Kate Hockersmith, Carrie Hendrix, and Dan Nechodom. The quartet performed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Angeline,” “Ode to Joy,” “Rocky Top,” “Wagon Wheel,” “Battle of New Orleans,” “Introduction of Quartet” and “Rip Tide.”

After the guitar performances, the high school bands entertained the crowd with “Tunbridge,” “Byzantine Dance,” “Handclap,” “Pink Panther,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Feeling Good,” and “Jump Street.” The students were accompanied by Jagelski and Gillick.

The lineup of student musicians included Waitsburg High School band members Sarah Daves, Olivia Duncan, Yaneli Flores, Andrew Gillum, Rozalynn Harvey, and Ellie Teal. Joining from Dayton’s High School band were Theo Jaech, Lily Smith, Zane House, Tyler Thornhill, Ricky Gomez, Bryson Martin and Auston Ferguson.

To conclude the evening, Mrs. Jagelski presented Sarah Daves with the John Philip Sousa Award. Daves will attend Washington State University in the fall and will continue playing music.
