June 5-9 & June 12-16
DAYTON — Featuring an all-star ensemble led by Andrew Scott, Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina and Damian Lewis, “Pressure” is set during the tense 72 hours before D-Day. As the fate of the free world hangs in the balance, General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg confront an impossible choice: launch the largest and most dangerous invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether. The film is directed by Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai), who co-wrote the script with Olivier Award-winner David Haig, based on Haig’s critically lauded play, which enjoyed a hugely successful run in London’s West End before going on to be performed for Her Majesty the Queen and world leaders to mark the D-Day 75th anniversary in 2019. The cast includes Brendan Fraser, Andrew Scott, and Damian Lewis. It is rated PG-13 for war violence, bloody images, some strong language, and smoking. It has a runtime of 100 minutes.
In honor of the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, Veterans will receive a $1.00 off admission. The Liberty Theater worked hard to bring this powerful film to Dayton. “Pressure” has captivated audiences in its opening weekend.
On Rotten Tomatoes, viewers rated the movie 95%. One movie patron wrote, “Great storytelling and cast.” A critic said, “It’s astonishing to consider that D-Day could have failed all due to a weather forecast. ‘Pressure’ understands that and seriously engages with the idea of honorable people up against impossible problems. ”
The Summer Children’s Enrichment Program (SCEP) with the free series beginning on Tuesday, June 16, at 1 p.m. with the movie “Open Season”. The series runs every Tuesday and Friday at 1 p.m. and is free to attend. A small soda or water and a small popcorn will be available for only $2.00.
More information is available at libertytheater.org. Additional family summer events include a performance by Alex Zerbe on July 2 at 1:30 and the Missoula Children’s Theater on August 3-8.
On Saturday, June 20, during All Wheels Weekend, the theater will screen a locally produced documentary, “Roll Modelz.” The 12.5-minute award-winning documentary shows how the often-misunderstood lowrider culture can bring people together, especially during times of loss. The film follows the WA State Lowriders Car Club, based in Walla Walla, as it honors the memory of Mya Kay Avila. “Roll Modelz” will be shown on a loop for free between 11 and 3 p.m. Stop in, enjoy the AC, a free film, and snack on popcorn with real butter. As an added bonus, the club will park a fleet of its lowrider cars in front of the theater for the event.
Schedule change for upcoming movies: “Pressure” (2 weekends) June 5-9 & June 12-16; “Star Wars: Mandalorian & Grogu” June 19-23. The schedule is always subject to change.
