DAYTON — “Sentimental Value” is nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In the movie, sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father - and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics. Rated R for some language and brief nudity, and has a runtime of 133 minutes.
Rotten Tomatoes critics rated the movie 97%, and audiences rated it 95%. One patron wrote, “a profoundly resonant family drama for grown-ups, ‘Sentimental Value’ explores human emotions with assured restraint, leaving an imprint that’s hard to shake.” While a critic wrote, ‘Sentimental Value’ articulates a particular pain of knowing someone loves you in the only way they know how, while also knowing that love never arrived in the form you needed.”
Support the Bluewood Ski and Snowboard Team on Saturday, February 28, by attending a screening of the ski film “Pressure Drop” from Teton Gravity Research. Bluewood staff members are raising money to benefit the non-profit Bluewood Ski and Snowboard Team (BSST), a youth program.
In addition to the TGR film, the theater will show “ROGUE,” a short film by Jared Farley, who grew up in Waitsburg. Enjoy these films, and enjoy a beer from Buckwheat Brewing Co. while supporting the BSST program. There will be door prizes from Dayton businesses, including Bluewood.
“Pressure Drop” is the latest chapter in a 30-year journey—forged from a dream, fueled with cash from commercial fishing in Alaska and driven by an obsession that puts life on the edge. This film follows some of the best international skiers and snowboarders through Alaskan spines, stacked pillow lines, massive cliffs, giant couloirs, deep powder, and insane jumps. Tickets are $10 at libertytheater.org, at the Box Office on Tuesday and Friday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., or, for a limited number, at the door.
Upcoming Movies: “GOAT” on February 27, March 1 & 3, “Pressure Drop” on Saturday, February 28, “Train Dreams” on March 6-10, “I Can Only Imagine 2” on March 13-17.
