WAITSBURG - Waitsburg High School held its annual fall sports awards on December 4.
Coach Vickie Hamann started the evening with awards for cheerleaders. Mattilynn Carter was awarded MVP (Most Valuable Performer), Hope Adkins received the Most Spirit Award, and Madison Strickland was named Most Improved. Other fall cheerleaders who lettered were Sarah Daves, Karissa Potts, Ava Childers, and Chloe McCaw.
Hunter Wallace presented volleyball awards. Emma Hays was voted MVP, Cheri Mathews was named team leader, and Olivia Kiefel received the Most Improved Award. Volleyball pins were also presented to Ellie Teal, Sophia Castillo, Makaelyn Mikesell, Katy Allen, Shaunna Hilton, Joslin Nodine, and Emerson Underwood.
Coaches Gabe and Dane Kiefel recognized their players with pins, All-League Awards, and special awards voted on by the team.
Team players were Carter Barron, Uriah York, Liam Kiefel, Jake Lynch, Gavin Mikesell, Bryer Paul, Kyle Lindsay, Carsyn Pennington, Alex Zuniga, Gage Mynear, Camdyn Vories, JJ Gleason, Isa Reyes, Martin Vasquez, Koyen Fortune, Tucker Hamilton, Landen Henry, Graycen Teal, Jarod Hankins, Victor Whitmore, and Donovan Armstrong.
All-League athletes were presented medals: JJ Gleason for quarterback and defensive back, Jarod Hankins and Koyen Fortune for defensive line, Martin Vasquez for linebacker, Isa Reyes for wide receiver, and Landen Henry for wide receiver.
Special Team Awards went to: Martin Vasquez for Cardinal of the Year and Special Teams Player of the Year, JJ Gleason for Offensive Player of the Year, Jarod Hankins for Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year, and Jake Lynch won Scout Player of the Year.
