Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

A busy 4 days for Waitsburg HS Basketball

Waitsburg High School started December with three games in four days. On Wednesday, December 3, the Cardinals' varsity boys beat Prescott, the varsity girls lost to the Tigers, and the junior varsity (JV) boys lost to Walla Walla Valley Academy. On Friday, all three Cardinal teams fell to Pomeroy, and on Saturday at Garfield-Palouse, the Cardinals went home without a win.

In the first game on the 3rd, the JV boys lost to the Knights 41-20. Camdyn Vories led the team with 10 points, Carsyn Pennington scored four, Liam Kiefel had three, Victor Whitmore had two, and Carter Barron scored one.

The Lady Cardinals lost to Prescott 33-18. Audrey Kiefel scored seven, Cheri Mathews five, Olivia Kiefel three, Addison Crenshaw had two, and Kayla Kuykendall got one.

The varsity boys started off a little rusty, but stayed the course and won 65-36 against the Tigers. Blake Benevides scored 30 points, Paco Kenney had 10 points, JJ Gleason 13, Logan Seal four, and Landon Henry, Liam Kiefel, Alex Zuniga, and Carter Barron scored two points each.

On December 5, against Pomeroy, the varsity girls lost 33-18. Olivia Kiefel had eight points and 16 rebounds, Cheri Mathews four points and six rebounds, Audrey Kiefel four points, and Joslin Nodine two points and six rebounds.

The varsity boys fell to the Pirates 49-30. "The boys played hard, getting used to a new defense. But I think as they see they are genuinely competing with these top programs, a spark will be lit to go steal a couple of those games," said Coach Wallace.

At Garfield-Palouse (GP) on December 6, the Lady Cardinals lost 54-12.  Audrey Kiefel scored 6, Olivia Kiefel had four, and Kayla Kuykendall scored two points.

"The girls are playing together as a team. They are having a lot of fun this year and soaking up all the information they can to continue to improve," said Coach Waggoner.

The Cardinal boys lost at GP 72-34. "We went on runs, and they went on runs, but we couldn't get rebounds, and we had a lot of unforced errors to make what was a competitive game look like a blowout," said Wallace.
