The USDA, Rural Development and the Public Works Trust Fund (PWTF) have received an application for financial assistance from the City of Waitsburg for construction of a new oxidation line within the existing service area. The new facility will be located adjacent to their existing treatment facility, which will be abandoned. The proposed site is currently utilized as gravel and fill storage area. A new outfall pipeline between the facility and the Touchet River will be constructed. The new outfall pipeline will generally follow an existing dirt and gravel road. The outfall will penetrate through an existing rock riprap dike into the Touchet River. The Collection system improvements include approximately 1000 feet between W. 2nd Street and W. 3rd Street adjacent to Main Street and approximately 2300 feet adjacent to Preston Avenue.

The visit of three Japanese teachers to Waitsburg has been an educational experience for many Waitsburgites, including this writer. The language barrier was not as formidable as it might have been with foreign visitors, because each of the three men teach English to Japanese students. The "humor" barrier was more interesting to observe. We seem to forget that all the little funny statements that have grown up over the years are built on sarcasm and irony, a fact which sometimes escapes the serious Japanese student of English. One of the visitors studied the statement "You don't have to be crazy to work here, but it helps," It was hung on a wall in the school lounge, and taken seriously would cause some problems in understanding, to say the least.
