Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

A photographer's view of harvest

WAITSBURG - Juniper Kerr has joined "The Times" staff as a photographer. Her first assignment was to photograph this summer's harvest with her unique sense of movement and light. She visited the Northwest Grain Growers Turner elevator and the Zuger, Fortner, and Thorn crews working harvest.

Kerr said she has been photographing her whole life, beginning when she was three or four years old. She was given a camera by her mother and used it to produce her own postcards to sell. After moving to Dayton, Kerr continued to build her skills by studying the work of photographers, including Nick Page. She went from using her phone to a Sony a7 IV mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. With a 200-600mm lens, she has learned how to take ski and snowboard photos while working at Bluewood Ski Resort outside of Dayton.

After leaving Bluewood, Kerr was offered the Rooster Brew coffee drive-thru space and opened Adventure Espresso. She still finds time to photograph graduates, weddings, events, anything that catches her eye, often accompanied by her young son, Anders.
