Lady Cardinals Summer League Basketball

WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg High School Lady Cardinals have been showing up and putting in the work this summer to improve their basketball skills ahead of the upcoming fall season.

The summer league includes nine schools: Waitsburg, Pomeroy, DeSales, Walla Walla High School, Dayton, Weston-McKewon, College Place, and Milton-Freewater.

Each game consists of two twenty-minute halves.

"We are not keeping track of stats," said Coach Kira Waggoner.  "We are just trying to give everyone equal playing time so that they can practice and improve. I am starting to see growth.  The girls are starting to catch on to the little things.  They should start putting it all together soon," she added.

The girls have played six games so far and have six games left.  They will play on July 8, July 15, and July 22 at College Place.

The young Cardinals played Pomeroy and Dayton on Waitsburg's Kison Court on Tuesday, July 1.  Assistant Coach Hunter Wallace saw positive developments with the seven girls who were available to play in the first game against Pomeroy.  Addison Crenshaw, Cheri Mathews, Joslin Nodine, Olivia Kiefel, Sophia Castillo, Audrey Kiefel, and Kaitlyn Paul played solid defense, made some 3-point shots, and ran the offense with minimal turnovers. (Also playing in the summer league are Kayla Kuykendall and Lillian Carpenter)

The girls will attend a skills basketball camp in Pasco from August 1 to August 3.
