Sandra Torres to sign new book on Huntsville

WAITSBURG — Waitsburg author Sandra Torres will sign her new book, “Pioneer Families of Huntsville, Washington,” during Waitsburg Celebration Days.

Blush Salon will host the event on Sunday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event will be held at 214 Main Street in Waitsburg, once owned by Torres and her husband Lupé, where they ran Nothing New Antiques and Lodging before retiring and selling the building to Blush Salon.

The couple fell in love with Waitsburg after they retired and moved to town in 2003. They bought and remodeled a historic commercial building and opened Nothing New Antiques and Lodging.

She published “The Waitsburg Family: 1858 – 1900, The Beginning” in 2013. In the book, Torres used stories of families and their connections to the city and each other to present the history of Waitsburg.

Since publishing her first book, Torres has researched and documented the history of a small nearby town that no longer exists as a town. The result is her book on Huntsville, Washington, focusing on its pioneer families through brief biographies of the early beginnings of Huntsville.

As in her first book, Torres’ curiosity led her to research the residents and their connections to write a history of this lost town. Her book is an important document, preserving Huntsville’s history.
