A classic pitcher's duel was carried out to 11 innings before Cardinal Scott Zuercher's game-winning two run single pulled out a 2-1, bottom-of-the-eleventh win over the Whitman County third place Colton Wildcats in a loser-out District 9 baseball playoff. Waitsburg needed one to tie and two to win in the bottom of the eleventh. Johnson and Robbie Ezell both flew out, bringing up Waitsburg's ninth batter, Mike Ruzicka. Coach Jim Sharkey pinched Mike Zavala in and Zavala powered a single into shape. Scott and Wolf battled "toe to toe" through 10 innings with both teams having opportunities to score and both teams making the big plays, Sharkey Said. Scott threw nine innings, allowed no runs, no hits through the fourth inning, struck out ten and only four walks. Colton eventually managed five hits off Scott.
