DW COMBINE-The Wolfpack boys' basketball team won their last two EWAC league games and is heading to the playoffs. Eight teams are in the 2B double-elimination district tournament, and the top four will advance to the state tournament. Tuesday, February 7, the team played the first round of playoffs at White Swan. Win or lose, they will play on February 10 at either Columbia Burbank or Goldendale.
DW led 48-35 at the end of the third quarter and held off the Cougars in the fourth quarter to win 61-53 at Warden on January 31. Spencer Hansen scored 27 points, and Gage Holm scored 20 and rebounded five. Benny Bryan contributed with six points and eight rebounds. Blake French added four points and five rebounds. Monte Pettichord scored two points, and both Ryland Kilts and Rueben Yutzy scored one point.
Three seniors, Monte Pettichord, Gage Holm, and Benny Bryan, were honored before the start of the game against Walla Walla Valley Academy on Thursday, February 2. The seniors led the Wolfpack to a 19-9 first-quarter lead and finished their regular season basketball game with a 70-44 win. Hansen had another strong offensive showing, scoring 23 points and seven boards. Pettichord scored 19 points, rebounded nine, and had four steals; Holm scored 11. Kilts scored nine, and French had four points. Yutzy and Bryan scored two points each, with Bryan getting seven rebounds.
Playoff update: DW beat White Swan 65-47 on Tuesday night, Feb. 7. They will play Columbia Burbank, who won their game on Tuesday against Goldendale, 71-30.
The DW/Columbia Burbank game will be Friday, February 10 in Burbank; 6 p.m. start time.
