DAYTON/WAITSBURG-Volleyball season is in full swing for the Dayton-Waitsburg Wolfpack ladies. The season kicked off at River View High School, with the Wolfpack narrowly falling against the Panthers.

Set scores were 24-26, 21-25, 22-25

Emily Rodrick had four aces, three kills, and three assists, and Megan Forney had one ace, two blocks, six digs, and five kills. Peyton Struckmeier had a 100% serving streak for the night, four kills, one block, and eight digs.

"I am so proud of these girls. Due to a COVID shutdown, we were only able to practice with both schools together one time before this game," said coach Tracy Barron. "The team proved that they have grit and determination that a coach only dreams about. I'm so excited to watch them grow throughout the season."

The team lost the first home game against the Walla Walla Valley Academy Knights on September 16, but quickly identified areas of the team that needed improvement.

Set scores against WWVA were 5-25, 7-25, 14-25.

Megan Forney ended the game with two kills and two digs on the stat record. Emily Rodrick had one kill, one assist, and one ace, and Kylee Henry held her own for the team with two assists and one kill.

"The team came out really flat tonight. They couldn't seem to find their groove. Things finally started coming together in the third game, but too much time had passed," said Barron. "I'm looking forward to watching this team grow and overcome obstacles in the future."

The Wolfpack Ladies next game against Cle Elum Warriors added another loss to the team's season, but improvement was obvious with close scores in each set. Set scores were 20-25, 18-25, 23-25.

Kylee Henry led team stats with three digs, three assists, four kills, and two aces. Emily Rodrick ended the evening with one kill, five assists, and three aces. Makenna Barron had five digs, two kills, two blocks, and four aces.

"These girls played hard today. I'm so proud of how they worked together. They are first, last, and always a team," said Barron.

Wolfpack Volleyball played against Columbia High School on Tuesday, September 21. Results were unavailable at the time The Times went to print. The next home volleyball game will be Thursday, September 28 at the Dayton High School Gym.
