Dayton Boys Beat Oakesdale, Fall to Pomeroy

Bren scores 30 points as Bulldogs win first game of the season, 62-54

DAYTON – The Dayton Boys’ basketball team began their season with a satisfying win on the road against Oakesdale on Friday night, 62-54.

Senior forward Tanner Bren led his team with 30 points. Bren was eight-for-14 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from three-point range. He was also 8-for-9 from the free-throw line.

“Tanner played a great game,” said Dayton coach Will Hutchens. “He defended well, attacked the basket well and hit his free throws down the stretch.”

Dayton fell behind early, and trailed 13-10 after one quarter and 26-25 at the half. The Bulldogs rallied in the second half, outscoring Oakesdale 18-10 in that period.

“We got better as the game went on,” Hutchens said. “Our defense was better in the second half, especially the third quarter.”

On the boards, Kleck and Lane Wilkening each pulled down eight rebounds, and Zech Bryan had seven.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 50% from the floor and 48% from the free-throw line.
