SPRINGFIELD – Two former Dayton High School students were involved in a head-on collision on the Mackenzie River Highway near Springfield, Ore. over Memorial Day weekend. The crash left the driver, Kenndra Haney, age 21, dead and severely injured passenger Chase Holden, age 19.
The accident occurred shortly after midnight Sunday according to reports from the Oregon State Police. Both Haney and the driver of a 90s Mazda pickup were pronounced dead on the scene. The police stated that it is believed that alcohol consumption by the driver of the Mazda that struck Haney's 2004 Honda Civic is the contributing factor to the accident.
Haney graduated from Dayton High School as a member of the Class of 2014. There has been an outpouring of support and disbelief from her friends and former classmates, who are in shock over the untimely death of their former colleague. Messages of support and memories have been shared through Facebook and a gofundme donations page set up in Kenndra's name to help the Haney family. Holden, who was the passenger in Haney's car when the crash occurred, also attended Dayton schools for different periods of time over his academic career. He sustained life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery for an aneurism in his heart. According to the last report Holden was out of ICU and due to be released from Sacred Heart Riverbend in Springfield.

The Whiskey Canyon Sports Bar & Grill in Waitsburg will host a benefit dinner to help the Haney family cover expenses during this difficult time.
Rick Haney, Kenndra's father, is the Head Chef and Kitchen Manager of Whiskey Canyon and has been with the restaurant since its opening. Reservations are $50 per person.
The dinner will take place on Sat., June 18th from 6 – 8 p.m. The dinner will consist of Whiskey Canyon's classic Prime Rib with classic horseradish cream and au jus, Yorkshire pudding, potatoes au gratin, carrots ala vichy, and green salad with champagne vinaigrette.
The restaurant and bar will be closed to dining and drinking until the completion of the benefit dinner. Reservations are required, so it is asked that you call ahead to (509) 337-6780 as seats are limited.
