The Times - Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

With the school year coming to a close for local schools, the recreational pools of Dayton, Prescott, and Waitsburg are all nearing their opening days. This will provide a much needed way for local residents to have fun and cool off over the grueling summer months.

Dayton

Dayton's City Pool will open on June 15, which coincides with the final day of school for the Dayton School District. The first day will include free admission for all patrons, and will include open swim sessions from 1-5 p.m. and another session from 6-8 p.m. The pool will continue to operate until Dayton schools start the new year in late August.

Dayton's daily admission is $3 for anyone above the age of five for open swim, lap swim, and aquasize sessions. Children ages five and under are free with a paying adult/patron.

They will also offer season passes for people that plan on using the pool regularly over the summer. The rates for season passes are $60 for and individual pass and $120 for a family pass that covers up to four people, with a $25 charge for each additional member. This pass covers the three sessions mentioned above.

Dayton's operating hours for Monday through Friday start with an early bird Lap Swim from 7-8 a.m., followed by swim team practice from 8-10 a.m.. Swim lessons will take place in 30 minute blocks from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The first session of daily Aquasize is from 12-1 p.m., which is then followed by day open swim from 1-5 p.m. Afternoon Aquasize occupies the 5-6 p.m. hour, and the day concludes with night open swim from 6-8 p.m.

On Saturdays, Dayton only opens for the open swim sessions, with the rest of the time being available for those who are interested in privately renting the pool. Sundays have no scheduled hours and are only open for rentals.

Swim lessons are offered for all ages, and more information can be obtained through the City of Dayton or from the City Pool. Lessons cost $35 and last two weeks per session.

There is a summer swim team that also operates through the Dayton City Pool, where practices are held Monday-Friday. More information can be obtained at the City Pool.

Prescott

Prescott's municipal pool is also opening soon. Their first day is June 11th, and it also operates until the end of August. Their regular operating hours are from noon to 7 p.m. on weekends and 1-7 p.m. on the weekdays.

Swimming lessons begin on June 21, and will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday-Friday for two weeks, each session. They will be offered continuously throughout the summer.

They offer all levels of instruction, from Mom & Tots to advanced levels. Lap swim and water aerobics will be offered from 7-8 p.m. on weekdays so long as there is sufficient interest and participation.

Family passes are $110 and cover two adults and all minors of the same household, while individual passes are $55. Daily charges are $4 for adults 18-65, while children ages 9-17 and seniors 65+ are $3. Children five and under are free with a paying adult.

There are a couple of special events happening at the Prescott pool over the summer as well. The Tri-Cities Steel Drum group is hosting a concert in the park on July 6th at 7 p.m. The concert is by donation, and you are recommended to bring a chair or blanket.

The country/gospel group Hand Picked will perform a by-donation concert on July 13th. There will be more events and concerts added as the summer moves along.

Waitsburg

Waitsburg City Pool will open on June 13 and is planning on holding its last day on August 20. Public Swim will be held Monday-Friday from 1-5 p.m.and from 6-8 p.m. with only the earlier session being offered on Saturdays. Lap Swim is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. in between the public swim hours.

Daily admission is $2 a person, while children five and under are free with a paying adult. Season passes are available, with a family pass costing $80 for five people, with additional members costing $10 each. Individual passes are $40.

Swimming lessons are free, and the first session runs from July 12-22, Tuesday-Friday. There are four levels being offered, and each session lasts 30 minutes. If necessary, a second run of swim lessons will be offered from July 26 – August 5, and will be comprised of the same levels and times.

The pool is also available to rent through City Hall and costs $60 an hour.
