Crockett, Callas shine for Cardinals at Lewiston Meet

Waitsburg takes second to Asotin at District 9 1B/2B meet

LEWISTON – Travis Crockett won both sprint events and Landon Callas won both the hurdles to pace the Waitsburg track team to a second place finish at last week’s District 9 1B/2B meet in Lewiston on March 23.

“The weather was outstanding, and that makes a big difference for our kids and performances, especially after Tuesday’s rain,” said Waitsburg coach Jeff Bartlow. “It rained all day (Tuesday) in Waitsburg and we never got on the track.”

Along with his victories in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, Crockett finished second in the high jump, clearing 5’-8”.

Callas took first in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. He also placed fifth in the long jump.

In the shot put, Zion Branson and Mark Montgomery took second and third respectively. Brandon Penner was second in the discus and fourth in javelin.

Waitsburg’s 4 X 100-meter relay team was disqualified, but the Cardinal 4 X 400 team of Daltin Lambert, Andre Potts, Cameron Terry, and Skylar Wood took second.

For the Waitsburg Girls, Emily Adams set a personal record in the 1600-meter race with a time of 5:30:00. That ties her for the school record in that event. Adams also tried the discus, and took sixth, with a throw of 74 feet, four inches.
