Tough Week for the Tigers

PRESCOTT – Last week was a tough one for the Prescott Tigers volleyball team who lost games in three sets to Tri-Cities Prep, Waitsburg, and Walla Walla Valley Academy.

The Tigers dropped the game to WWVA at a home match on Mon., Oct. 5: 7-25, 3-25, 10-25.

The Lady Tigers lost in three sets to the Waitsburg Cardinals on the Cardinal Court on Thurs., Oct. 1, falling 15-25, 16-25, 20-25. The match marked the first athletic contest between the two schools since the breakup of the WP sports combine.

“I know the girls are disappointed. We hoped to come in here and steal one from the Cardinals. But we continue to show our heart and scrappy play. Waitsburg played well enough to win. Hats off to them,” said first-year Tiger coach Bob Young.

Senior outside hitter Athziry Amezcua, led Prescott serving 12/14 with four service aces. First-year player and senior, Perla Xolio added 8/9 service and four digs.

Prescott also lost to Tri-Cities Prep in an away match on Tues., Sept. 29. The Tigers lost 5-25, 13-25, 6-25.

“We came out uncharacteristically flat against TCP. We found ourselves in the second set, but TCP is a very skilled and knowledgeable team. It was a good experience for us to learn how to play on the road against a tough opponent,” Young said.

The Tigers play Asotin at home on Tues., Oct. 6, followed by an away match against Dayton on Thurs., Oct. 8.
